I am fairly flexible in terms of book choice, but I
am more likely to approve books that deal with environmental history (although,
as a geographer, I tend to think of this field as the discovery of
historical geography by historians), the history of
medicine and the history of
technology.
I have listed books and works by authors that I find of particular
interest in the suggested readings of the syllabus.
More comprehensive lists of books dealing with environmental, medical
and technological history can
be found on various Websites. I recommend the following:
• Environmental History
American Environmental History Bibliography
Arizona State biology professor Stephen Pyne's Websites "Environmental
Historiography - Canon and Counter-Canon" and "Introducing
Environmental History"
Bibliography of Environmental History
ESEH Environmental History Bibliography
Georgetown University historian John McNeill on "Issues
and Literature" in Environmental History.

Historian William
Cronon's webpage on useful environmental history web links.
